The First Tee of Delaware is a local chapter of The First Tee National youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. We help shape the lives of young people from Delaware and the Tri-State area by providing in school and after-school educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. And it’s making a difference!

The First Tee of Delaware – Public Statement of Purpose
We, at the First Tee of Delaware, have
collectively spent the last few weeks struggling to process the tragic events unfolding
across our nation that are,
deeply disturbing, saddening, and heartbreaking. These events impact directly on the African American community. We do realize that society today continues to bear the marks of racial prejudice and social injustice for the under-served. Appreciating differences in others has always been at the heart of our organization and, while we
will continue our uncompromising effort to reach youth from all backgrounds
, we realize we must do more.
For 25 years, our First Tee of Delaware family, has profoundly impacted
the lives of our children by i
nstilling life enhancing, character building principles which are essential both on and off the golf course. Today’s societal challenges have shown us, now more than ever, that the First Tee’s Nine Core Values
– HONESTY, RESPECT, JUDGMENT, RESPONSIBILITY, INTEGRITY, COURTESY, CONFIDENCE, SPORTSMANSHIP,
are all essential to confront today’s issues head-on and, can help bring people together.
We stand united with our National organization as well with the cities/towns in the State of Delaware, and surrounding Maryland counties in their desire to address the existing unfairness,
and inequalities. We further commit to continue to provide opportunities for our children to grow by continuing to cultivate a culture of diversity, inclusion, and acceptance.
As Greg McLaughlin, the CEO of the National First Tee organization, recently stated,
“As a community of caring adults who come together in support of the next generation, it’s our responsibility to ensure kids build the confidence to find their voice, their footing, and stand up for what is right, even when it’s hard. Our character is a compass, and it is the source of our words, thoughts and actions. Strong character stands against injustice. As we grieve the events happening around us, we have to lead the next generation to higher ground.”
