In addition to our Life Skills Experience Classes for ages 4-18, The First Tee of Delaware holds special events to provide our
community ways to learn about us and to become part of the First Tee of Delaware family.

We also strive to integrate The First Tee Nine Core Values in all we do.

Nine Core Values

Due to COVID-19, TFTDE had to cancel 2 fundraisers, and postpone our Life Sills Experience Classes for the spring and part of the summer.

With this “Virtual Guest Bartender Event” we will raise well-needed funds to support our participants in 2020. This platform allows us to accept donations, have a silent auction, do a 50/50 raffle, offer sponsorship and ads as well as “voting on the favorite Virtual Guest Bartender.” ALL-IN-ONE-PLACE.  We feel this is a great opportunity for all of us to reach out to our friends – here, there, and everywhere. This fundraiser allows people to get involved in any way they are comfortable. And know in the end, that this will help us to continue to provide the youth development in our communities throughout the State of Delaware and surrounding counties in Maryland that will be needed for many years to come.

Gearing-Up for #GivingTuesdayNow

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and
unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
It is an opportunity for those in our communities to stand together in unity to use their individual power to remain connected and heal. People can show their generosity in
a variety of ways during #GivingTuesdayNow – whether
it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing
a skill, or giving to causes like the First Tee of Delaware,
every act of generosity counts.
Please help us help the children and the community we serve by joining us on Tuesday May 5th, through our social media and website to give what you can!
If you can’t wait until Tuesday, feel free to click on our DONATE link and make your donation today.

First Tee Friday 4.24.2020

In keeping with the theme of highlighting our Core Value of RESPECT this week, we would like to share activities our staff is involved with in the community and outside of the First Tee of Delaware Program. Quoting our coach Karen Hart, that RESPECT applies to the Admiration for others.” You will see how true this quote is when you continue to find out more about our respectful staff.

Executive Director, Bob Norris and his wife Debbie – have supported the donation of over 90 meals for Food First DE. The Food First Delaware project was founded by Javier Acuna, to provide meals to those in need during the coronavirus crisis while also helping keep some of his workers employed. Javier owns Santa Fe Mexican Grill, Pachamama Rotisserie Chicken and Mi Ranchito Mexican Food Mart in Newark, as well as Del Pez Mexican Gastropub and Savanna Salad Bowls & Sandwiches in Wilmington. The project allows people to purchase meals and grocery baskets for hospital workers, first responders and people in need. Those interested in donating can visit and choose between purchasing a single meal, a family-size meal for four, a bag of groceries or a boxed breakfast/lunch for 12 to 15 people.

Program Director, Charma Bell – working at Trader Joes, keeping the store clean and safe for people to get essential items needed. She makes it FUN with her coworkers, just as she does with the First Tee Family. Her wit and loving nature makes everyone around her feel at ease – always! Charma also volunteers for Meals-on-Wheels Delaware, delivering hot meals to those in need for over 15 years. She continues to do so through this pandemic practicing Social Distancing and good hygiene. She often takes along First Tee Delaware interns, participants and other volunteers to show the positive impact “Giving-back” has on those of all ages and of different socio-economic situations. To find our more, visit

Interim Business Manager, Leslie McGuigan – has been spending her early mornings and late nights sewing Face-Masks for Healthcare workers throughout the state. She teamed up with a Facebook group – Help for Healthcare Workers-Delaware – where over 2,270 members have sewn, delivered and provided materials to make over 20 thousand masks for about 150 facilities – 90 of which the request has been completely fulfilled. She also takes the time each month to bake a couple hundred cookies and/or brownies for lunch provided by her church at the Emmanuel Dining Room the 25th of each month. Emmanuel Dining Room helps alleviate the immediate needs of Delaware’s hungry with nutritious meals served at no cost.

Please share what you have been doing to show RESPECT or applying any of our other CORE VALUES during this time. Email us your story or tag us in your social media post.
You may see them shared in future posts or on our website!,,

First Tee Thankful Thursday 4.23.2020

Today we are focusing on the CORE VALUE of RESPECT. One of our long-time coaches, Karen Hart has taken time to be creative with our CORE VALUES and interpret how they apply during this pandemic. In her words,” RESPECT applies to the Admiration for others especially by Social distancing.”

To elaborate on this, we would like to share a beautiful touching video from Delawarean Ukee Washington, who currently anchors Eyewitness Evening News on CBS 3 in our tri-state area. His talent and dedication to our communities is evident in his video tribute, supporting Healthcare Workers, 1st Responders, and Residents of the Delaware Valley, on the front-lines fighting the COVID-19 crisis. Its message is meaningful, uplifting and demonstrates the First Tee Core Value of RESPECT and how it is being applied to help others in the communities where we live and work.

We, at the First Tee Delaware, are very THANKFUL for all Ukee has done for us –  and the rest of OUR FIRST TEE FAMILY, that have given us – in terms of their time as a volunteers and/or a community partners; parents registering their children to participate in our educational youth enrichment programs; and/or donations to help us make the game of golf available and accessible to any child regardless of economic standing and position in life. All this support guarantees that any child in Delaware and surrounding Maryland counties who want to participate in our programs can do so.

In the coming days and weeks, be sure to keep on top of First Tee of Delaware’s, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages, emails by way of Constant Contact and our website, to see how our staff, board, coaches, participants, families and volunteers are doing their part outside of our program, to make our communities a safe place!

Work-Out Wednesday 4.22.2020

Ms. Julia Dambaugh, First Tee Delaware National School Program (NSP) and Physical Education Teacher at Holly Hall Elementary School in Cecil County, MD – shows us her PE at Home Program – Minute to Win it Challenge. The best part is she is using everyday objects found in your homes. Watch and exercise along then tag @First Tee Delaware in your AT-HOME Exercise videos on social media.

FIRST TEE FRIDAY: Keeping up our Skills in Fun and Exciting Ways!

Although First Tee of Delaware is not holding instruction in person on the golf courses, in our community centers or in our many NSP participating schools across the state, the staff and participants are keeping up their skills in fun exciting ways.
The staff is eagerly working from their homes, seeking new ways to hold activities and programs virtually. Partnering with First Tee National and other First Tee Chapters, we will soon be providing fun activities to share with our participants and families. Check the Events page on our website in the coming weeks for these activities.
Now, some of our current participants are brushing up on what the Nine Core Values mean to them. Here are a few short videos from Haley Quickel, Christina Carroll and Danny McCall. All three are seniors getting ready to graduate from High Schools in New Castle County, DE and have been an active part of our First Tee family for many years.
Please consider doing your own video for one or more of your favorite Nine Core Values. It can be 30 to 60 seconds long. All you need to do is (1) state your full name; (2) your school; (3) your favorite Core Value; (4) why you feel this is your favorite Core Value. Feel free to email us your video at or tag us @firstteedelaware on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Happy and Safe Friday from First Tee of Delaware

Bartender Event?

Guest Bartender Event – Really Not Cancelled!

While our staff would normally be running around gathering items and prizes for our Guest Bartender event to be held  at Del Pez Mexican Gastro Pub on the Wilmington Riverfront. Our “New Normal” did not make it possible to hold the event live. We are still here in spirit and working hard to get our programming up and running as soon as possible with the hopes that you are too! It is with your ongoing support that we can provide positive experiences and activities for the ongoing success of the youth in our communities.

Raise a glass of your favorite “Brew or Spirits” and toast The First Tee of Delaware. Please feel free to post a photo of you doing so on our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages.  And . . . if you can, click our donate button and give a little something that will bring much CHEER to you and our participants.

The Staff, Board, Committee Members and Participants thanks you greatly.
